Engineer

Ákos Detrekői obtained a degree in engineering with honours in 1963 from the University of Technology. He has been a university teacher since he graduated, from 1980 at the Photogrammetry Department of the University of Technology and between 1986 and 1990 he worked as the dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering. Since 1997 he has been the official rector of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. His professional activities are linked to the mathematical processing of measurement data and spatial informatics. He became a corresponding member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1990 and a regular member in 1995. He has worked in several international organisations and is an honorary member of three foreign academies. He spent two years in Germany - partly with a Humboldt scholarship and is honorary chairman of the Hungarian Humboldt Society.
