Born in Budapest in 1953, he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts of ELTE University. Since then he has been a researcher and a faculty member of at the Department of Aesthetics of ELTE. He earned his doctoral degree in 1988 and received his Ph.D. in philosophy in 1996. Between 1985 and 2002 he was also an associate professor of the Hungarian Dance Academy. He is the editor of a number of periodicals published in print and online. In 2005 he was habilitated at ELTE where he now works as an associate professor of the Institute for Art Theory and Media Research. His main research interests include the scientific history of art history, the issues of interpretation on Caravaggio's and Rembrandt's art, the theory of interpretation and the hermeneutics of spatial and body arts.
