Dr. Kosztolányi earned his general practitioner's degree from the Medical University of Pécs in 1966 and received his Ph.D. in medical studies in 1989. He has been a corresponding member of the HAS since 2001. Between 1966-1971 he worked in the Pathology Department of the Baranya County Hospital, then at the Clinic of Paediatrics of the Medical University of Pécs (POTE) until 1998. Since then he has worked as Director of the Institute for Medical Genetics and Paedology of POTE. In recognition of his scientific contributions, he was presented with the HAS Academic Award in 1998 and with the Albert Szentgyörgyi Award in 2005. Dr. Kosztolányi is a member of a number of Hungarian and international societies of paediatricians and human genetics researchers. He has played a major role in introducing medical genetics as an independent discipline at POTE. He served as chairman of the Hungarian Society of Human Genetics for five years. Since 2004 he has been acting as chairman of the Professional Council of Clinical Genetics.
