Dr. Kampis graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technical University of Budapest in 1981. Following this he worked for a short time at KFKI, the central physics research institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, before joining the Ethology Department of the Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) where he has worked between 1983 and 1994. In 1988 he received his Ph.D. degree in theoretical biology. Later Dr. Kampis began to explore the field of philosophy of science and in 1995 he received his D.Sc. degree for his philosophical dissertation. Since 1994 he has been Chair of the Department of History and Philosophy of Science at ELTE. His research interests include theoretical biology, the biology of evolution, cognitive science, history of science and philosophy of science. Dr. Kampis is a member of the COMEST sub-committee of the Hungarian National Commission for UNESCO, the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME) Ph.D. School of History of Science and chairs the Hungarian Cognitive Science Association. In 1997 he was the recipient of the Széchenyi Professor Scholarship and in 2006 he won an FP6 tender of the European Union. His former students are among the faculty members of several prestigious foreign universities.
