To go with story 'Pakistan-tourism-north' by Gohar ABBAS
In this photograph taken on August 7, 2014 a sign points towards a view of Nanga Parbat (background), the killer mountain on Karakoram Highway in Pakistan's nothern area of Gilgit. Local authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan have removed the word “killer” to brush off images of last year's killings on the mountain. In June last year, gunmen killed nine foreign tourists in an unprecedented attack in Pakistan's normally peaceful Himalayan region, spotlighting violence just weeks after a new civilian government took office vowing to quell militancy. The June 22 attack at the base camp for the 8,126-metre (26,660-foot) Nanga Parbat, Pakistan's second-highest mountain -- nicknamed for its treacherous terrain -- was the deadliest assault on foreigners in the troubled nuclear-armed country for a decade.
