Anna Erdei, immunologist and member of HAS, lectures on the immune system. It is the immune system's job to guard the body against external attacks from viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites. The immune system includes many intricate biological processes, which utilize a large number of blood and lymph cells, and molecules that form multiple connections. As a result, an immune response develops to eliminate harmful substances within the organism. Due to environmental, genetic and other factors, the immune system may malfunction and may become harmful to the organism itself by developing responses to innocuous substances or by attacking its own structures.
