István Raskó was born in 1939. He completed his secondary school education at Madách Secondary School in Salgótarján, and obtained a degree in medicine at Szeged University of Medicine. He has qualifications in laboratory medicine and human genetics. He has a postgraduate degree in biology and a is Doctor of medicine. He is director of the Genetics Institute of Szeged Biology Centre (SZBK), an accredited doctor of Szeged University, university private professor and a visiting professor at Ulster University. He is a member and functionary of several scientific associations and committees. His scientific career began in the Microbiology Institute of the Szeged University of Medicine. Following a post-doctoral period spent in the USA, he has studied mammal cells genetics and human genetics at the Genetics Institute of SZBK. He has received the Award of the Academy and the Order of Merit of the Hungarian Republic, Commander Cross.
