He obtained his physics degree from Kossuth Lajos University in Debrecen in 1962. Since that time he has been working at the SzBk Enzymology Institute of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA). His research is focussed on the molecular level organisation of living matter and the basis of the physical and spatial structural functioning of proteins. His more important scientific achievements have been made in the field of molecular immunology, the mechanism of the regulation of enzyme functioning and structural bioinformatics. He has published 140 original scientific articles in various leading international scientific journals and is author of several patents, books and book chapters. He is university professor at the Faculty of Science of Eötvös Lóránd University and at the faculty of Information Technology of Pázmány Péter Catholic University where he teaches physical biochemistry. He has been visiting professor in Oxford, Los Angeles, Regensburg and Tokyo. He is corresponding member of MTA and a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts
