He graduated in Economics at the Karl Marx University of Economics Budapest, Faculty of General Economic Sciences in 1975; doctor's degree (Ph.D.) in Economics in 1977. From 1975 to 1981 scientific researcher in the Economic Research Institute, investigating the problems of investment and foreign economic relations. From 1981 to 1987 Head of Section, later Head of Department at the National Planning Office, dealing with the questions of the short and medium term macroeconomic planning. From 1987 to 1992 Director of the Economic Research Institute working on macroeconomic analysis of current Hungarian events. From 1992 to1998 Chairman and CEO of GKI Economic Research Co. Since 1998 Chairman of the Board of GKI Economic Research Co. Former member of the Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister and to the Minister of Finance. Co-chaired the 4th Working Group (Macroeconomic Situation) of the I. Blue Ribbon Commission. Member of the Financial Commission of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Author of many books, articles and studies concerning economic policy and development of Hungary. Member of Supervisory Committee and of Board of Directors at a few companies (for example: FOTEX Rt., ARANYKOR Pension Fund, AVIVA Rt., TCPL Hungary Kft.). Member of the Council of the CIRET.
