This image obtained from NASA 04 March 2002 shows the Mauna Kea (upper) and Mauna Loa (lower) volcanoes on Hawaii's Big Island. With summits of 13,792 ft (4,205 m) for Mauna Kea and 13,674 ft (4,169 m) for Mauna Loa, it's not unusual to get wintertime snowfall. In this true-color MODIS image from 28 February a late winter snow has settled on the volcanoes' flanks, creating large white circles in the north and central portions of the island. The dark streaks and patches reveal the location of lava flows. AFP PHOTO/ NASA (Photo by NASA / NASA / AFP)
