Stephan Keshi, a nigériai futballválogatott kapitánya távozik posztjáról. A csapatkapitány Joseph Yobo pedig úgy döntött, nem játszik többet a válogatottban.

Keshinek a hónap végén jár le a szerződése, és azt mondta, nem kapott új ajánlatot, úgyhogy nem folytatja. A franciák ellen 2-0-ra elvesztett vb-nyolcaddöntő után a csapatnak bejelentette az öltözőben, hogy búcsúzik, és mindenkinek megköszönte a közreműködést.

"Most a családommal szeretnék foglalkozni, régóta nem láttam őket, úgyhogy ideje kis szünetet tartanom" - nyilatkozta Keshi, akiről azt hallani, hogy a dél-afrikai csapatnál folytatja majd. Keshi 2013-ben Afrika-kupát nyert a csapattal, majd később távozott, de a tavaly nyári Konföderációs Kupa után meggyőzték, hogy térjen vissza a válogatotthoz.

Szintén búcsúzik a válogatott csapatkapitánya, Joseph Yobo, akinek a franciák elleni volt a 100. meccse a nigériai válogatottban. A védőnek nem sikerült szépre a jubileum, mert a második francia gólnál az ő lábáról pattant be a labda.
