West Bromwich Albion utility man Steve Watson is backing Zoltan Gera to be the Baggies' inspiration in the coming months.

Albion will lose both Nwankwo Kanu and Diomansy Kamara to African Cup of Nations duty in the next few weeks, but should have Hungary international Gera back in contention after a hernia problem.

Zoltan Gera has only featured once in the last three months, but Watson proclaimed: "Zoltan can be inspirational.

"The things he can do are special and he has got a hell of a lot of ability. I've played against him for Everton and he was a real handful.

"Gary Naysmith said last season that he was a nightmare to play against because you never knew what he was going to do and he never stopped running.

"Kanu, in particular at home, has been fantastic for us this season. He was unbelievable against Tottenham last week and he will be a big loss.

"But a fully-fit Zoltan would be like having a new signing and a big lift for the manager when Kanu and Diomansy are away with their countries."
